We also take part in the University of Nottingham’s Martial Arts Week, where we work with several other martial arts clubs within the University to run various sessions and events, such as free taster sessions.
Two of our biggest and most popular social events are the Christmas Meal, at the end of the Autumn term, and the Summer Ball, at the end of the year. We’ve had a tonne of themes over the years, like murder mystery and rat pack themes, which help to make these two events much more fun!
We’re also a very active social club and organise many other socials throughout the academic year such as film nights, BBQs and the occasional paintball trip.
The club competes in the BSTF National Championships every year as well as competing in the TTAs two major tournaments (Individuals and Teams). This is a national event which we have personally hosted in 2008 and 2012. The club has been very successful in competitions over the years and students from the club have competed at several international competitions.
Our full list of honours can be found here.
Throughout the year, students are apple to participate in numerous courses offered as a part of the TTA training syllabus, which include sparring, Instructor and Referee’s courses. We boast a large presence at the majority of these courses.
In addition the club hosts the annual TTA Summer School. This is an intensive 6 day course instructed by Grandmaster Loh and has a strong emphasis on developing current sparring practice as well as other important aspects of training, such as Poomsae, Step Sparring and Self-Defence. The course is open to all grades although it is not recommended for students who are not yet graded.
